CLAPTON TOUR DATES (W/JEFF BECK, ROGER DALTREY AND STEVE WINWOOD)

Eric Clapton will go on an extensive tour this year, starting in March and running at least through mid-June.  The dates will feature special guests guitarist and former bandmate Jeff Beck, Who frontman Roger Daltrey, and seminal blues-rock icon Steve Winwood.  The three guests artists will appear on separate dates.

DYLAN TO PERFORM AT WHITE HOUSE CIVIL RIGHTS CONCERT

Bob Dylan will perform at the White House as part of a music series sponsored by First Lady Michelle Obama. The theme of the Feb. 10 concert is  "A Celebration of Music from the Civil Rights Movement."

In addition to Dylan, scheduled performers include Natalie Cole, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, John Mellencamp, Smokey Robinson, Seal, The Blind Boys of Alabama, The Howard University Choir, Morgan Freeman, Queen Latifah and readings from celebrated writings of the Civil Rights era.

Brian Eno's recent comment on the changing times in popular music.

"I think records were just a little bubble through time and those who made a living from them for a while were lucky. There is no reason why anyone should have made so much money from selling records except that everything was right for this period of time. I always knew it would run out sooner or later. It couldn't last, and now it's running out. I don't particularly care that it is and like the way things are going. The record age was just a blip. It was a bit like if you had a source of whale blubber in the 1840s and it could be used as fuel. Before gas came along, if you traded in whale blubber, you were the richest man on Earth. Then gas came along and you'd be stuck with your whale blubber. Sorry mate - history's moving along. Recorded music equals whale blubber. Eventually, something else will replace it."

JIMI HENDRIX AND LORD KITCHENER'S VALET

Here's a neat clip - Lord Kitchener's Valet was a very successful, high-end boutique in London (Soho) in the late 60s. Mostly featuring antique military jackets (think Sgt. Pepper's album cover). 

Jimi Hendrix bought the Hussar's jacket, featured in the interview with Robert Orbach of Lord Kitchener's Valet, and can be seen in this great live concert from Chelmsford.  Like A Rolling Stone, and Stone Free. 

The audience is about as much fun as The Experience.

 

 

CHILD ABUSE GROUP PROTESTS THE WHO AT THE SUPERBOWL

A South Florida child abuse prevention group is protesting the Who's upcoming appearance at the 2010 Superbowl. ChildAbuseWatch.net, based in Pompano Beach, objects to Pete Townshend performing because of his 2003 arrest by British police on suspicion of possessing child pornography.  Although Townshend was cleared of charges, having only accessed internet sites while conducting research on child abuse for a project, he was put on a watch list by the British police for 5 years.

So far, the Who have not returned phone calls regarding this issue.  They will play on February 7, 2010, at the LandShark Stadium in Miami, during the half-time intermission.
