The Eagles jump-started their recent album "Long Road Out Of Eden" with a uptempo country rocker/protest song, "How Long." The successful single, first written and recorded by John David Souther in 1972, marks another bulls-eye in a string of hits, either written, co-written, and/or recorded by Souther in a career that has spanned nearly 40 years. The best known include "New Kid In Town," "Best of My Love," "Faithless Love" (for Linda Ronstadt), "Heartache Tonight," and his own hit, "You're Only Lonely." He recorded as a solo, as a duo with James Taylor on their hit single "Her Town Too," with Glenn Frey as Longbranch Pennywhistle (pre-Eagles) and with Souther-Hillman-Furay. In 1985, J.D. turned towards acting, writing and general reclusiveness. He continued to write and had songs covered by George Strait, Trisha Yearwood, Jimmy Buffet, India Arie, CSN, Bonnie Raitt, Warren Zevon among many others.
He moved to Nashville a few years back, at the urging of friend Rodney Crowell, where he hooked up with the local musical community. The end result is his first album in 25 years, "If The World Was You." He is also commencing a tour of small venues on Tuesday, in Nashville. The tour will run through December.
The tour dates are here at J.D's official website, along with audio clips.
Ever since I was a child I've just loved this man!!!! I hope he comes to Houston soon...he is a musical genius and his voice is so pure, raw and uncut....everything flows out with truth and feeling. I hope someday my son can meet him, he is an aspiring writer, musician--and his style reminds me of JD's (although my son has never listened to his music....Love you!!!

JD Souther is easily the most underrated artist/songwriter ever. This man is genius incarnate.
