You've (Still) Got A Friend:
In a recent six night stand (ending tonight) James Taylor and his long-time friend, Carole King, one of rock music's most respected women songwriters, celebrated their musical relationship at L.A.'s Troubadour club, backed by The Section, Danny Kortchmar on lead, (Danny in The Flying Machine with James, before James went solo,) Leland Sklar on bass, and Russ Kunkel on drums.
One of the most successful tours of the early 70 featured James Taylor, Carole King, and Jo Mama,(lead guitar/writer Danny Kortchmar), all of whose members came up the musical ladder with James and Carole. Carole's album Tapestry and Taylor's Sweet Baby James were predominating the charts at the time.
The shows, proceeds to charity, sold out in minutes. The audience was besprinkled with musical peers, some of whom should consider the same idea. Most importantly, the shows were filmed, so those who never got to see these all-time greats working together live will be able to do so for posterity.
Featuring songs such as Sweet Baby James, Up On The Roof, So Far Away, Country Road, and You've Got A Friend, the resulting DVD should be well worth the price of admission.
