Florida governor Charlie Crist has agreed to review the 1969 conviction of Doors' front-man, the late Jim Morrison, and hopefully pardon him. Morrison was convicted of exposing himself at a Miami concert in 1969.
This decision comes at the urging of Dave Diamond, a cable TV producer, from Dayton, Ohio, who believes that Jim Morrison deserves to be remembered as a poet and musician, and not as a rock 'n' roll bad boy. Morrison is a Floridian, having spent some of his youth in Melbourne. Crist, a fellow alum of Morrison's from Florida State, is agreeable to the review, but it should be noted, he cannot issue a pardon acting alone, and has to have his decision ratified by two of the three other members of the Florida Cabinet, which functions as the State Board of Clemency. At this time, there are no guidelines in place for posthumous pardons in Florida.
Jim's father, retired U.S. Admiral George S. Morrison, 87, who lives in California, said he would support a pardon.
