Photo: Savile visits with girls and staff at Duncroft, 1974.
My grandmother used to say "Don't mock the afflicted." I try to obey that rule, but when it comes to the 70sDuncroft foodie blog, I can't help myself, at least as far as grammar is concerned. Best to let things speak for themselves, I always say. A new post has cropped up in the last day or so, and I have used the subject line verbatim.
I guess Duncroft was slacking off pretty badly in the education department in the 70s, because the writing skills of this blogger are well, colorful! We've already rejoiced in the sheep in wolf's clothing, now we learn that not everyone are looking for money. Well, mebbe or mebbe not, but the opening sentences to the rest of the post are eye-openers.
The media pay for a story from a Duncroft woman? Perish the thought. Gotta love the way they give themselves away. Does "the media" also include certain producers and their staff?
"I have read the latest on a site which implies that anyone who made allegations towards Saville are only in it for the money. Whilst I agree that people have made money from selling their stories, it is their personal choice to do so. If the media didn't offer cash for stories then the stories would not be given."
The piece then woffles on as to the altruistic motives, that it was all about "outing" Savile, etc. Mebbe, mebbe not. I got the impression from the email sent from Friends Reunited that this was actually about revenging oneself on "people who have exploited us." But this inflammatory admission of being paid for your story is quite something. In other words, if you crossed their wrinkled little palms with silver, Mr. or Ms. Journalist, they'll spin you a yarn for your readers/viewers?
I also wanted to point out to one of the posters there - well, in fact all of them - that the woman you identify as Margaret Jones in the photo above of Savile with some of the girls and staff is not Margaret Jones. It's Pamela Mason, the psychiatrist. But if you actually went to Duncroft, you'd know that right away. Both she and Margaret Jones are standing about as far away from Savile as they can in the photo, but the girls are all around him, on the most part looking like they're having a good time. Every photo I see of Savile with the girls from Duncroft, they're always snuggling up or looking as if they're really enjoying his company. And don't give me that 'grooming' crap, please. You never heard the word until Mark Williams-Thomas showed up.
