Doug Fieger, the lead singer/guitarist of The Knack, has died after a battle with cancer. Originally from Michigan, he was living in Woodland Hills, CA, and passed on at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He was 57.
The Knack's "My Sharona" stood as an anthem of the early 80s, and remained at No. 1 for six weeks on its release in 1979. The song was inspired by then-16 year old Sharona Alperin, Doug's girlfriend. Ironically, Sharona Alperin fought her own battle with cancer in 2006, but still works as a super successful realtor for Sotheby's here in Los Angeles.

Well-known defense attorney, Geoff Fieger, is Doug's brother. His best-known client was Jack Kevorkian, whose life story will be remembered in an upcoming telemovie, "You Don't Know Jack." Starring Al Pacino (Kevorkian), Danny Huston (Geoff Fieger), with Susan Sarandon, and John Goodman, director is Barry Levinson.
